PRESS RELEASE
Village of Huntington Bay
Huntington Bay, New York

Huntington Bay Mayor Herb Morrow Asked the Town Board to Postpone
Any Decision on Zoning Changes for Apartments

This letter was read in to the record at the Town Board meeting in February.

February 10, 2004

Hon. Frank P. Petrone, Supervisor
Members of the Town Board
Town of Huntington
100 Main Street
Huntington, New York 11743

Dear Supervisor Petrone and Members of the Town Board;

I would urge the Board to postpone a decision on changing our Town Code as it affects Apartments over exiting business establishments. I agree with most of you that affordable housing is an important issue and that a reasonable increase in apartments may be possible. However, we need to do more work. We should allow the consultants that you have hired to complete their work on the Master Plan. We should do further study on the impact this would have on traffic and parking. We should study whether this change would affect our schools. We should conduct a proper environmental assessment. And once the Master Plan is updated, we should allow the residents to be educated on what is in it and to have the opportunity for input.

Let’s not do anything less than cherish and protect this Town's future. I would hope that you would have the patience to do this right for those of us who love this Town and for the future residents of this community.

Sincerely,

Herb Morrow
Mayor
