VILLAGE OF HUNTINGTON BAY
FIRST VILLAGE IN SUFFOLK COUNTY TO ADOPT
ENERGY SAVING TECHNOLOGY

Glen Cove, New York –May 7, 2003 – Nationally, owners and occupants of commercial buildings spend more than $300 billion a year on heating, cooling, lighting and other energy services. Long Island communities are part of that number, with many towns and villages taking a line-by-line budgeting approach to finding ways to save money without cutting essential services or raising taxes. Village of Huntington Bay Mayor Herb Morrow encourages the use of alternative energy sources and looks for resourceful ways to reduce power usage and energy consumption, which led to the decision to install IntelliCon? energy saving controls in the Village facilities.

“This innovative and effective technology is a very practical solution for reducing energy consumption, improving building systems performance and increasing worker comfort and productivity,” says Mayor Morrow. “It’s such an excellent tool for cutting costs and saving money that I plan to recommend its use for private clubs in our Village, Huntington Town schools, Huntington Hospital and the municipal facilities of the Town of Huntington.”

Within one month of installation, the Village reduced fuel consumption by 14% and reduced on/off cycling (the amount of times the system automatically turns on and off) by 16%. Morrow, who directs the Village’s energy program, emphasized that this is a successful way to trim energy usage in both public buildings and residential dwellings, noting that the larger the municipality, the more significant the potential savings.

In addition to establishing the Village of Huntington Bay as a leader in energy conservation among Long Island communities, the technology also serves as an example to Long Island residents, as its characteristics are transferable for use in residential heating and cooling systems. “We plan to discuss this technology in the next issue of The Village Quarterly, our residential newsletter. It is important that Huntington Bay homeowners know this technology is available for purchase and how easy it is to use less energy and drastically cut their electric bill, year round.”

“Achieving energy and cost savings from commercial equipment begins with more informed purchasing decisions,” says Dan Tarulli, Intellidyne Vice President. “Our company is working to educate building owners/operators and residential consumers to make smarter and more cost-effective decisions about
energy usage.”
